Yesterday marked the culmination of months of teamwork, as the AUG hosted the first-ever Arc Universities Group Student Summit at the University of Bedfordshire.
This inspiring event welcomed PhD students from our eight-member universities: University of Oxford, Oxford Brookes University, Anglia Ruskin University, Cranfield University, University of Bedfordshire, The Open University, Buckinghamshire New University and University of Cambridge.
A highlight of the summit was the 3 minute thesis competition, where students were challenged to present their research in just three minutes to a panel of judges: Prof Yvonne Barnett, Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Anglia Ruskin University, Prof Nigel Adams of Buckingham Enterprise and Innovation Unit, and Dr Christina Schwabenland from the University of Bedfordshire. Topics included sustainable practices in the fashion industry, AI in marketing for SMEs, and the innovative use of topographic surface changes to assist police in detecting grave sites – the latter securing Mike Walters, PhD researcher at Cranfield University first place for his inspiring and engaging presentation – all within the 3 minute time cap.
Huge thanks to our Consultant Director, Dr Winifred. A. Soribe, and AUG Director, Alistair Lomax, for leading a truly inspiring day, and to everyone who contributed to make it possible. We look forward to sharing insights and outcomes from the Summit over the coming weeks.
