Cranfield University’s Professor Karen Holford CBE joined an interactive panel event with George Freeman MP (Minister for Science, Research and Innovation) and Lord Johnson of Lainston (Minister for Investment), highlighting the role of universities in driving overseas investment into UK R&D.
The Higher Education Policy Institute (HEPI) worked with Universities UK International (UUKi), the National Centre for Universities and Business (NCUB), Midlands Innovation and Henham Strategy to develop the report.
The event included some excellent insights and encouragement from George Freeman MP (Minister for Science, Research and Innovation) and Lord Johnson of Lainston (Minister for Investment).
Minister Freeman highlighted the many international investors who want to take a stake in the UK economy, and the aim to make it easier for them to do so, with clusters front and centre. He also highlighted the pace of technological convergence. Minister Johnson said it is key to have standardisation of offering around IP, and noted that Government is working on a ‘fund of funds’ vehicle to help investors achieve diversification. He also highlighted the appetite from philanthropic trusts to fund ‘moonshot’ opportunities.
