East West Railway Company has launched its final route-wide consultation on East West Rail – the infrastructure project set to connect Oxford, Milton Keynes, Bedford and Cambridge.

Running from 14 April to 9 June 2026, the consultation provides communities with an opportunity to shape the final design ahead of a Development Consent Order submission in 2027.

New details include updated station designs, fly-through visualisations and further information on a phased construction approach – enabling parts of the route to be delivered earlier so benefits are realised sooner.

The project is central to improving connectivity across the Oxford–Cambridge Growth Corridor, supporting more efficient movement between key economic centres and unlocking opportunities for jobs, homes and investment.

Proposals also include service planning to meet future demand, alongside a focus on sustainability through hybrid electric and battery-powered trains and measures to reduce environmental impact.

A programme of public events, webinars and a virtual consultation room has been introduced to maximise engagement and ensure communities can feed into the final plans.

East West Rail represents a critical step in turning the Growth Corridor into a more connected, accessible and economically integrated region.
